Above is a pattern I am working on called, "Distractions." Notice the error? Actually, the whole pattern is based on a mistake I made. I was piecing and pressing stars one day while chatting online with a friend and started sewing my stars together wrong. Then, I realized that I kind of liked the mistake. So, rather than just tossing the idea out of my 30th floor window, I went with it. I played with some new layouts and eventually came up with the pattern above. Now, you will be able to purposefully mess up your quilt!
Mistakes don't need to be upsetting or immediately call for "jack" (aka the seam ripper). Instead, start moving some other things around and come up with your own pattern. No one has to know how the quilt started, all they need to know is how it ended up. A gorgeous, one of a kind piece of art.
